Tina Fey Does It Again

Another great clip from last weekend’s SNL, featuring Tina Fey as the hapless Gov. Sarah Palin.

Bitter Lawyer - “The Interview”

As callback season is fast approaching in the world o’ law, we wanted to pass along another hilarious webisode from BitterLawyer.com.

Bitter Lawyer is quickly becoming one of our favorite sites on the net and we would encourage all of our readers to check out the site when the are looking to log a few Chillable Hours. While the webisodes on Bitter Lawyer are likely to be funny to most, anyone who has practiced corporate law at a “big firm” will be frighteningly amused. For a corporate lawyer - it just doesn’t get much funnier than Bitter Lawyer’s webisodes.

Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Boom Goes the Dynamite!

Sports Illustrated recently posted an excellent online article about two things that we absolutely love here at Chillable Hours - sports and You Tube.

The result was a hilarious collection of 25 must see sports videos from You Tube.

Our personal favorites are “Boom Goes the Dynamite” (number 4), “Awkward Sam Cassel Interview” (number 7), “Joe Namath really likes Suzy Kolber” (number 19) and “Classic Michael Jordan-Larry Bird commercial” (number 21).

Let us know your favorites in the comments section below and we will tell you why they are not as funny as our favorites.

Paris is Not Voting for McCain

While we loathe the ability of someone like Paris Hilton to become famous and earn a good living being Paris Hilton, we thought that the recent video from the guys at Funny or Die starring Paris was pretty darn funny.

The ESPY’s

For anyone that missed it (which is likely almost everyone), the ESPY’s were broadcast this weekend on ESPN. Whle most award shows cause us to stop and thank the inventors of Tivo, we actually enjoyed watching the full ESPY awards this year with little fast forwarding.

Our favorite part of the awards show occurred when ESPN shared clips of the auditions to host the show. We have included the audition tapes for Dwight Howard, Joba Chamberlain and Greg Oden below and have decided that we will be casting our vote for Greg Oden to host the ESPY’s next year (we realize that the public doesn’t actually get to vote for the host - but you get the point).

Whoever does the marketing for ESPN should be given a raise - this stuff is seriously funny, as are most of their commericals. Our favorite line from each audition is above the audition video below…and thank you Joba Chamberlain for getting that damn song stuck in my head.

“Look at the leg - look at it….” (Very close second place - “Hello my name is Shaquille O’Neal”)

“Don’t cha remember you told me you love me baby…”

“I went to high school with John McCain.”

Is it just me, or is Greg Oden’s smile ridiculous.

Duke Sucks

It is a fact that Duke sucks. This has been undisputed for some time. However, a Kentucky judge has also weighed in with a gigantic “Duke Sucks” of his own. Click on the Duke Football picture below for more information.

And to go along with this brilliant story about Duke sucking, please find one of our favorite YouTube videos of all time. There is a tiny bit of harsh language in the clip, so you may want to turn your speakers down (or up, depending on where you work).

Odenized

Odenized is a great site that posts various sports clips on an almost daily basis. We have had a number of readers submit clips from this site, so we thought that we would share the site with all of you. While the site is not the most complex site we have ever seen, it does have some great content. In addition to posting humorous videos, Odenized posts the most talked about highlights and clips from last night’s games.

In case you are wondering what “Odenized” means, the site offers the following:

Main Entry: oden·ize
Pronunciation: \ˈō-də- , nīz\
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): oden·ized; oden·izing
Etymology: Greg Oden, American basketball player
Date: 2007

: to express control and composure by suppressing one’s emotions (the point guard odenized himself before calmly sinking the game-winner)

Odenized also offers the following ESPN commercial (which is one of our all time favorites) as an example of the comedic brillance of its namesake.

Unfortunately, this site has also called into question our support of Barack Obama. How does a sports website do this you ask? See below.

We hate Reggie Miller.

The Greatest Comedy of All Time

Dumb and Dumber is the best comedy ever - period. The entire Chillable Hours team LOVES Dumb and Dumber and can recite about 98% of the movie in real time (which can be pretty annoying for anyone watching the movie when we are all around).

Have a great weekend and tell us your favorite part of this piece of cinematic genius in the comments below.

You Dumb Sonofabitch

We posted this video a long time ago, but it is one of our absolute favorites and we wanted to post it again.

Numb Nuts

I don’t know what it is about the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee, but for some reason we get strangely addicted to the competition each year.

***Don’t read on if you don’t want to know who won this year’s contest***

One of the best moments of this year’s tournament was captured in the video below, in which Sameer Mishra, this year’s winner, was presented with an interesting word in one of the final rounds of the tournament.

It is also pretty hilarious to hear to ABC announcer at around 0:13 say “what did you call him - numb nuts?!?” I also love the fact that the super prim-and-proper host does not skip a beat throughout the entire video even though the entire audience is cracking up.

Charlie Bit My Finger!

Just like a Charlie - he bites your finger and then just laughs at you (I dont’ know what that means either).

Have a great weekend - avoid the office - and log some Chillable Hours!

Apparently, Chuck thinks there are some fat people in San Antonio

Apparently, Sir Charles thinks that some of the folks in San Antonio are slightly overweight.

We have said it before - we think that the Chuckster is absolutely hilarious. Maybe not the most politicially correct, but absolutely hilarious.

On Camera Meltdowns

Wednesday….ugh….it sucks.

In an effort to help you all get through the day (and avoid working), we wanted to pass along the video below that we saw on Gawker.com and thought it to be too funny to not share with all of you.

Please make sure your sound is turned down if there are any sensitive ears around because the clip is filled with four-letter words.

Dan Marino - ‘roid much?

The Chuckster

We love Charles Barkley and we don’t care who knows.

Not only is he one of the greatest rebounders EVER for his size, but the Round Mound of Rebound is more often than not the best part of an otherwise bor-ring TNT production.

We are considering creating a “Sir Charles” category and posting about Mr. Barkley on a more frequent basis - like we said, we love Charles Barkley. Let us know what you think.

Have a great weekend.

No More Socratic Method!

One of our favorite bloggers (who doubles as a law professor) has recently won the 2008 Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching, which is presented annually to a UCLA School of Law professor who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to teaching.

Not only do we enjoy Professor Bainbridge’s blog (www.professorbainbridge.com), but we also REALLY like how he completely bashes the Socratic method as a teaching tool in his acceptance speech. The consensus over at Chillable Hours is that the Socratic method does more harm than good and basically just scares the crap out first year law students who are already stressed out beyond belief.

In addition to giving kudos to Professor Bainbridge for the award, we want to thank him for saying what he did when a large number of his co-workers use a VERY Socratic method of teaching.

Please feel free to forward this on to any of your professors who continue to make you put a name placard in front of you each day during their “lectures” and/or who don’t appreciate how limiting a professor who is super-Socratic can be to their students.

Professor Bainbridge’s speech is below…

The War Room

Please set aside 1.2 Chillable Hours for The War Room - you will not regret it.

The War Room is an amazing behind-the-scenes documentary about the 1992 Clinton for President campaign, focusing on the adventures of spin doctors James Carville and George Stephanopoulos (then Governor Clinton is almost never seen, and when he is, he is often wearing ridiculously short running shorts). The film is named after the campaign’s “war room”–command center–from which the effort was directed. The documentary was led by husband and wife directors D.A. Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus, and was nominated for an Academy Award.

The documentary recently made headlines again in late April, when focused on a clip from the film which appears to show former Clinton administration official Mickey Kantor saying “Look at Indiana, wait, wait – look at Indiana. 42-40. It doesn’t matter if we win. Those people are shit. Excuse me.” D.A. Pennebaker recently stated that Kantor had actually said “Those people must be shitting in the White House.”

For anyone remotely interested in the inner workings of a political campaign, this is a must see documentary - it is truly amazing to think that the room full of people on your screen (who admittedly look like they may not have been invited to sit at the cool kids’ table in high school) were the machine behind Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign victory.

I have posted a link to the first clip (one of ten) below. To see the other clips, simply click on the video and then you will see the remaining nine clips in the “related videos” section of edbdpt1’s YouTube page.

The Greatest

There has been no one better. There currently is no one better.

The team at Chillable Hours is getting tired of hearing announcers talk about players who “are as good as” or “could be the next” Michael. Not true. No way.

Sorry Kobe. Sorry Lebron. Sorry Craig Ehlo.

I can close my eyes and remember lacing up a new pair of Jordan’s as a teenager and marking an imaginary free throw line on the concrete, before taking off from at least three feet away and dunking on a seven-foot rim with my tongue out. Good times. Sorry Cleveland.

I Drink Your Milkshake!

If you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake…and I have a straw…and my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake….I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE - I DRINK IT UP!

Below is a five minute clip from the final scene of There Will Be Blood in which Daniel Day Lewis’ character goes ballistic and claims that “I am the third revelation… I am who the Lord has chosen.”

There Will Be Blood is a great movie and Daniel Day Lewis is a cinematic genius.

John He Is

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent or someone else, you have to admit that this parody of the Barack Obama video by Will.i.am is simply hilarious.

Chillable Hours does not want to endorse a candidate yet, but we definitely do not think that we will be voting for a candidate that openly states that he would be willing to stay in Iraq for a hundred years. While a slow economy provides a great chance for all of us to log a few Chillable Hours, we clearly do not want “four more years.”

Just for reference, the second video below is the original Will.i.am video made in support of Barack Obama.

If you want vacation time, go teach third grade public school

I am a millionaire… I drive a Ferrari…. I have a ridiculous house in the South Fork

This is a classic clip from Boiler Room in which Ben Affleck talks about his love of money and distaste for all the “pikers” out there. Quotes from this movie are an instant conversation starter among a crowd full of professionals and Boiler Room is a must see for anyone networking with the thirtysomethings in the business world.

Be careful playing this one at work, since there are a ridiculous amount of four-letter words in the clip.

A good walk spoiled

When not logging Chillable Hours in the office, a good way to log a few Chillable Hours outside of the office is on the golf course. There is nothing better than getting up on a Saturday or Sunday morning (or leaving the office early on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday) and getting in a round of golf with a group of good friends.

A few things can make a round even better, like crushing a 300-yard drive, sinking a long putt or winning a few bucks off your buddies.

Unfortunately, a few things can also make a round frustrating, such as slow AARP members in the group in front of you, losing over a two dozen golf balls in one round or a slow beer cart.

I am always trying to get friends to join me on the course, even if they have never played before. I tell people that even if you have never swung a golf club, anyone can drive a golf cart with reckless abandon, make fun of other people’s bad shots and complain about their bosses and co-workers (all things that make a round of golf wonderful).

Below are a few clips that can help even the newest golfer - the first clip introduces a few basic mechanics (sorry for the quality of the vid) and the second is a tad bit more advanced…

And if you can’t get out of the office - you can always challenge your friends to a round of mini-putt (or kill a few Chillable Hours playing solo).
